Not all spaces are created equal. Flatland, the two-dimensional space has more properties than Lineland --the linear space where motion can be carried away in only one direction. Similarly, in Spaceland --our three-dimensional world-- we have more degrees of freedom than "people" from Flatland.
Can we expect that Hyperland ---the space of fourth dimension be more full of strange properties? Scientists, mathematicians think so. Why this expectation?
To see how some activities can be done in some dimension but not in others, let's take the simple exercise of flipping a coin. This is common activity in our everyday life, however, it cannot be done in Flatland. Why? Because Flatland lacks the "height" or "up" dimension. All that Flatlanders have is just length and width, but not "height". So how can they flip a coin "in the air"? The answer is simply: they can't. For them, nothing can flipped to the other side.
However, a being from Spaceland --anybody of us-- can take the coin from Flatland, rise it in the "air" flip it, and put it back to Flatland. Miracle! miracle! will shout the Flatlanders, because they cannot see who did the coin-flipping, however it it occurred!
This example translated to our Spaceland implies the following: a being from the fourth dimension can do "miracles" in our nose without us being able to understand.
Is this what happened in many obscure passages of the Bible. Are the "heavens", or the "hell", a form of Hyperland?
Granville uses geometrical examples to its full extent to show how the universe's creation (or the Big Bang for others) and the universe annihilation (the Big Crunch) can be explained by the passage of energy from one dimension to another. It doesn't matter if you believe in the creation or in the evolution, according to Granville, both concepts can be easily understood when we embrace the multi-dimensional reality.
