Energy supply and use

Energy supply and use. The more energy we use, the less supply we have, unless we shift the paradigm. This article from the United States Global Change Research Program is about some inconvenient truths:

  • Warming will be accompanied by decreases in demand for heating energy and increases in demand for cooling energy
  • Energy production is likely to be constrained by rising temperatures and limited water supplies in many regions
  • Energy production and delivery systems are exposed to sea-level rise and extreme weather events in vulnerable regions

Some charts –like this one included in this report– are so explicit in so little space (in the PDF download is bigger):

This chart is about how the petroleum consumption has been steadily increasing while the hydropower generation has maintained its level for the past 60 years.

See how the petroleum, natural gas, and coal generation  consumption has  steadily increased in the las 60 years? See how hydroelectric power and biomass, have not shown any increase in the same period of years? Where is inertia that is stopping us from taking consciousness from this problem?

This chart is about how the petroleum consumption has been steadily increasing while the hydropower generation has maintained its level for the past 60 years.
